From a legendary day on the track and a FKT in Banff to exchanging wedding vows in Prague, there have been plenty of impressive activities happening on Strava this week.
Lots of trail races took place last weekend, including two hosted by KAT 100 by UTMB in Austria. Daniel Jung of Italy finished first at the 50-mile Endurance Trail race, with Sylvie Geißler of Germany taking the top spot in the women's race. And at the 50k Marathon Trail race, Valérie Arsenault took home first in the women's, with Hayden Hawks winning the men's race. Hawks noted that the conditions were challenging, with "tons of rain and mud." But despite the tough conditions, he notes, "Nice course, nice race, tough trails." What more can you ask for?
Heading from the trails to the track, Matthieu Bonne set a new 🇧🇪 record for 24 hours on the track, clocking in 177.52 miles / 275.2 km. Legendary! Who wants to do the math on how many laps that is?
Meanwhile, in Banff, Canada, Tyler Williams set a new FKT for the Banff 3 Peaks Challenge, racking up over 15,000 ft / 4,527m of elevation gain across 39.4 miles / 63.4 km in just 9 hours 19 minutes 46s, shaving over 12 minutes off the previous fastest known time.
Also in Canada: Justin Watkins set a new course record at the Near Death Marathon. "That was the gnarliest trail I’ve ever run. 40% grade descents, swamps, lakes, and relentless climbs. Canadian runners, you guys rock 🤘" Amanda Phillips finished first among the women. And in California, Michael Eastburn took first place at the Angeles Crest 100 Mile, while Megan Eckert took the women's title in a course that includes over 19,000 ft / 5,791m of elevation gain.
In Australia, Big Bird Strava Art celebrated his 50th birthday with another impressive drawing–a map of the world that involved 3 ultramarathons over 3 days. What an epic way to celebrate another trip around the sun. Happy birthday!
And lastly, a wedding in Prague! Congratulations to the newlyweds 🥂
