Most Fun Club of the Year

Run

From raccoon memes to offhand observations, the Sad Girl Track Club is everything a Strava club aspires to be: active, engaging and refreshingly honest. If you haven’t already, take a look and see why they won Strava’s 2023 Most Fun Club of the Year.

Founded by Izzy Seidel in 2022, Sad Girl Track Club (SGTC) is more than a club, and despite its name, it has become a community for more than just sad girls. Rooted in raccoon memes, SGTC is a fun-running community where bad days are cool, and sadness is just a part of the journey. In 2023 alone, over 5,000 Strava members have joined the club, drawn by the motto: “Normalize being a lil’ emotionally unwell.”

Living in a world where social media almost exclusively shares success stories and the glittery, shiny aspects of life, it’s important to remember that it’s okay to struggle occasionally. Scrolling through image after image of runners sporting a light glow right after a 10km run? Lovely. What about the rest of us who look like red, sweaty messes or are too banged up to be able to run? SGTC is aiming to normalize both.

Training is tough, but SGTC knows the secret sauce – doing it together. 6AM workouts, Sunday long runs – they’re all better with the squad. SGTC turns complaining and commiserating  into an art form. Because, let's face it, “misery loves company,” especially when it's hilarious. No wonder SGTC scored Strava’s Most Fun Club of the Year Award.

In case you haven’t had the chance to check them out, here are some SGTC gems to get you giggling:

  • “Sad because I signed up for a marathon. And now I have to train for a marathon.”

  • “Life is like a Boston qualifier. I do not have one.”

  • “Not now honey, mama is writing the silliest Strava caption to make her feel better about her disappointing workout.”
