Spotted on Strava: Canyons 100k, Valtteri Bottas on Gravel & A Prom Date

From a surprise winner at the Canyons 100K, to Valtteri Bottas on the gravel, and a date to the Prom, there's been plenty to keep an eye on on Strava this week.

The Canyons 100K is the stuff of legends. One of the oldest Ultras on the planet, it's also one of the last chances for athletes to stamp their golden ticket to June's Western States 100. This weekend, American Rod Farvard did that in emphatic style, claiming victory in 8:44:30 over a stacked field that included Drew Holmen (8:51:09) and Petter Engdahl (8:55:31). In the women's race, Katie Schide was in a league of her own, taking out the win by nearly an hour - sixth place overall (9:10:49) from EmKay Sullivan (10:01:26) and Anna Kacius (10:24:37).

You've got to hand it to Valtteri Bottas. When everyone's favourite Finnish F1 star isn't driving cars at ridiculous speeds around racing circuits (or doing laps of them on the bike, for that matter), he's riding pretty fast on gravel. En route to this weekend's F1 race in Miami, Valtteri stopped off to compete in the Swartberg 100 - his sixth-placed finish securing him a spot at the gravel world championships later this year.

From one speed merchant to a selection of them - it was a busy week for FKTs (Fastest Known Times) on Strava. Down in Australia, John McIlveen set the FKT for the 15 Summits (the highest points in Australia). Meanwhile, over in California, David Sinclair was busy besting Jack Kuenzle's Backcountry Ski FKT on California's Mount Shasta. And then there was the tandem team of Amy DeMarco and Emily Walker who completed the Devil's Path (one of the toughest trails on the Eastern Seaboard) out-and-back in a new, supported time of 18h 42m 17s.

It's been at least a week since we last spotted something impressive in the Belgian cycling scene, but there were some seriously impressive circular cycling happening this week. Perhaps inspired by Peter de Jeu's epic circle, Maurits de Preter went big. Very big. During the course of three days the Belgian covered 356 miles / 573 km of roads - including 9 miles / 15km of cobbles and 1.3 miles / 2km of hike-biking. The end result? An enormous circle.

And, finally, do you want to go to the prom with me? As you may know, we love a little Strava Art on these pages, particularly Strava Art with a purpose. So when we saw Campbell Reinhardt ask Bryn Nelson to the prom on Strava we were impressed. When Bryn responded with her own Strava message we were... wow! Needless to say: Campbell and Bryn, we hope you have a great night!
